Happy Birthday Daddy

This is my Daddy , He was taken from me far to soon , his life stolen by Motor Neuron Disease .

I wasn't particularly close to my dad as a child , he didn't live with me and I only saw him when I was visiting my grandmother (which was fairly frequently).  As I grew up he seemed to want to spend more time with me , he took me horse riding and paid for lessons , he even took me to see Micheal Jackson live - He got it slightly wrong , I was a George Micheal Fan but it was still amazing ).

When my son was born seeing him playing lego on the floor with him was something I never thought I would see.

This was taken in Florida on the first , last and only holiday we took together .
He loved Disney and had always spoken about taking his grandchildren there , once he was diagnosed it became important for us to go sooner rather than later .
I can't help but smile at the memories we made, getting caught in the rain at Epcot and being soaked to the bone all day, spending a whole day apologising to people that he'd attempted to run them over in his motorised wheelchair and taking him to the airport 24 hours early for his flight home amongst them

It was on his return from this holiday that his health deteriorated hugely and he didn't eat again after the holiday - This was May 2003 I was 8 weeks pregnant and he never got to meet his grandson .

I will never get over the cruelness of this awful illness, can you imagine dying a little bit more day by day and knowing what's coming , loosing your mobility , being unable to eat ,loosing your voice , can you imagine being aware that you are struggling to breath as your lungs stop working.
I'm not sure I would be brave enough to do as my dad did and see it through to the end

He was so brave , never letting us see how much it was hurting , never complaining about it , working until he was unable to do so any more and keeping his sense of humour right until the end .

This is what makes My Daddy , My Hero

Enjoying this weather ....

.......or maybe just melting in the heat

These lovely things have to be a 28 week pregnant ladies best friends right now , Its a blessing that we get no sun on the front of our house so with the windows and the doors open it stays beautifully cool

Its been a busy few days , I was looking forward to a quiet day when hubby got home from work early and it turned into a day of replacing the 3 seater sofa with a two seater , new mattress shopping , and tidying the squirts bedroom .

Yesterday I had a lovely visit from the expectant parents , a quick little breakfast before a midwife appointment ( you'll never guess where )

I'm pleased to report that peek a boo is doing exactly as it should ,  and its always nice to be reminded that there are people in the world that feel like this about me

Then to have my baby girl buy me flowers "just because" left me feeling very loved yesterday

Aren't they lovely ?

almost as lovely as this little selection of prettiness, that made writing Thank You letters a pleasure  ( oh yes that's another challenge ticked off the list once I get around to buying stamps)

Got to love a little bit of Cath Kidston

What a hectic few days ...

and very enjoyable it has been too ... if somewhat exhausting for this 27 week pregnant 40 year old.I've been very spoilt with lots of lovely gifts Like this little combo from my hubby and eldest daughter

Friday saw me at the hospital with my littlest Guy having a blood test , he was so brave that I felt a little shopping trip was in order ( for something that will also help keeping him occupied as he can't go out and run around this summer )

Friday evening was a lovely meal with my family and two special friends from up north ... the food was delicious and it was all topped off with cake which was very yummy and missing 40 candles much to my relief

Saturday bought with it thunder storms and hot and muggy weather which found me fanning myself with anything I could find ( Note to self Buy a personal fan asap !)

It also bought with me a much needed night out with fabulous friends , great tapas , much laughter and more yummy cake . Banco lounge in Totterdown has always been one of my favourite places but really outdid themselves with table service for my special occasion .

so that's it the end of the 40th Birthday celebrations , but not quiet the end . I still have the generous gift of a night at the theatre with my favourite Aunt , Nan and Mum to look forward to , as well as a lovely day or two at Clifton relaxation centre ( a gift from my postnatal girls) which will be a lovely way to fulfil another one of these challenges

Day 1 - Really ... 40! How did that happen ?

I am sure that when I went to bed last night I was in my 30's ... somehow I have slipped into this alternate dimension in which I am now in my 40's .

I can't get upset about it when it involves being this spoilt by some generous family and special friends

I started the day with a crafty little trip to Costa for my favourite gingerbread latte and almond croissant

Then off out with my Mummy to take my very missed Grandad some flowers . My birthday will forever mark the anniversary of the time I saw him for the last time but I refuse to allow it to get me down .. I was incredibly lucky to have someone in my life that I miss this much.

Then Lunch time , not at all as planned but once the food arrived it was very yummy .I am very glad my mummy took me out despite me wanting a quiet day at home and what's a birthday without a balloon

I still have my hubby's gift all wrapped , waiting for him to get home from work when I open it and more celebrations to come over the next few days ... Turning 40 is actually quiet Fun :)
